Banned Books Week: September 27th-October 3rd

Celebrate your right to read this week at the Lemont Public Library during Banned Books Week.  In 2014, there were 311 official challenges against books and the American Library Association lists The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexis and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi as the top two most challenged books of the year.  Other books that have been challenged this past year include  The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini,  Drama by Raina Telgemeier, and Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey.

Participate in our Banned Books Week Contest this upcoming week to show your support for the freedom to read.  A popular YA book that faces challenges every year has been shredded and put in a jar in the Teen Space.  Guess the title of the book and win a gift card and a signed copy of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments.
